Refined glycerin is high-purity glycerol after decolorization, desalination and distillation, typically ≥99.5%, meeting USP/BP/EP pharmacopeia or industrial grades. Green Star Bio, as a broker, matches supply and demand for refined glycerin, connecting refiners with pharma, cosmetics, food and industrial buyers.
Refined glycerin is the high-value endpoint of our closed-loop by-product line — further valorizing crude glycerin to close the biofuel loop. We match supply by the buyer's grade requirement (pharmacopeia/food/industrial) and coordinate inspection and full-process documentation.
When we broker this product, our desk monitors the parameters below to match grade to your process, destination and sustainability needs.
| Purity | ≥ 99.5% |
|---|---|
| Moisture | Per grade |
| Color (Pt-Co) | Per grade |
| Chlorides / sulfates | Per applicable standard |
| Arsenic / heavy metals | Per applicable standard |
| Standard | USP / BP / EP / industrial |
Values shown are typical reference ranges. Contract specifications for each lot are confirmed before shipment and may vary by origin and grade.
A pharma or personal-care maker needs USP/EP refined glycerin with full traceability and a CoA per shipment.
A refiner with pharmaceutical-grade glycerin capacity looks for buyers requiring certified, documented quality.

Refined glycerine is crude glycerine that has been distilled, deodorised and sometimes ion-exchange polished to pharmaceutical purity. At 99.7% it meets the USP and BP monographs and can be sold into food, pharmaceutical, personal care and tobacco applications, where colour, odour, chloride and heavy metals are all controlled.
The distinction between grades is worth being precise about. USP and EP grade glycerine is a regulated pharmaceutical excipient and food additive; technical grade glycerine is chemically similar but is not released to monograph testing and is sold into resins, polyols, tobacco and industrial applications at a discount.
Most refined glycerine is vegetable-derived, but the feedstock origin matters to buyers. Palm-derived and rapeseed-derived glycerine are the defaults; tallow-derived material is usually excluded from kosher and halal programmes, and some buyers require RSPO or ISCC documentation on the vegetable origin.
Crude glycerine is the unrefined co-product at roughly 80% glycerol, carrying water, salts, methanol and organic residues. Refined glycerine has been distilled and treated to 99.5–99.7% glycerol, meeting a pharmacopoeia monograph and suitable for food, pharmaceutical and personal care use.
Yes — the 99.7% specification is set to meet the United States Pharmacopeia and British Pharmacopoeia monographs, which control assay, specific gravity, colour, chloride, sulphate, heavy metals and related substances. Buyers should still request a lot-specific certificate of analysis.
Pharmaceutical grade glycerine meeting USP or EP is also acceptable as a food additive in most jurisdictions, but a buyer needing food-grade material should confirm the monograph, the allergen and GMO position, and the kosher or halal certification separately.
Glycerine derived from vegetable oil rather than from animal fat or from petrochemical synthesis. Most commercial refined glycerine today is vegetable-derived, typically from palm, rapeseed or soybean, and this is what food, cosmetic and pharmaceutical buyers normally require.
In bulk by ISO tank, road tanker or flexitank for industrial volumes, and in 250 kg drums or IBCs for smaller buyers. It is hygroscopic and viscous, so it is normally shipped and stored with temperature control and with nitrogen blanketing for pharmaceutical grades.
